Zoom Note #2:
"To Host or not to Host
, that is the question" – trading off ease vs. meeting
controls"
The presence of a Host
is not
"required" to
Start (or ever Join)
an
Omnilore Zoom meeting
(which is implied by Zoom Note #1), but...
- Advantages of Coordinator or Zoom techie Signing In
using the <YourSDG>-Zoom@Omnilore.org
account which scheduled the meeting (Sign-In specifics
given in
April-5 email titled "<YourSDG> Meetings, Zoom Sign-In,
&
Meeting Invitation") and this having meeting controls
that only the Host has, including:
- Can Mute (or Unmute)
anyone or everyone.
- Can Rename participants who enter meeting
via Phone or default names such as "iPhone" or "my Android"
...
- Can Stop anyone else from
Screen Sharing (due to his/her forgetfulness or
abuse...).
- Can Enable "Waiting Room" so that you (the Host) see who is
attempting to join the meeting and individually approves or
disapproves each one's entry to the meeting.
- Can "Lock" the Zoom meeting room to
prevent more participants from entering.
- Can Remove anyone from
the Meeting
- other(s)?
- Advantage of Signing In
using
your Personal Zoom account:
- When clicking the link
in the Meeting Invitation, it's probably
easier for the
in-charge coordinator or techie because you might be
already signed in
to your personal account from yout previous Zoom
meeting,
and thus simply
clicking
that link would Sign you In using your personal
account
(unless you never attend other Zoom meetings) — and
if you
wanted those extra Host controls, you would
have to Sign Out and then re-Sign In using the <YourSDG>-Zoom@Omnilore.org account
to be the
meeting's Host.
- And if it's easier for
you to just go with whatever account you were last logged in
as, those
extra Host controls might NOT really be needed for most
Omniloe meeting
(because we're all such courteous classmates?)
Rather than coming across as indecisive,
we recommend one of you Signing In as Host — just
in
case...
